與Faculty Candidate Dr. Fritz Meeting心得

這學期系上要聘任一位Associate Professor，在書面審查中一共選了兩位Candidates，本週四是其中一位Candidate Dr. Fritz前來拜訪。

拜訪日的流程大致如下：早上給一個Research Presentation，簡述自己的研究興趣以及過去的成果，未來要做的事情；中午是與學生的lunch meeting(前一天晚上是與職員的dinner meeting)；下午是teaching presentation。以下是幾個心得：

Research Presentation
1.要培養一至兩個不斷鑽研且能累積研究成果的主題，presentation的過程中要讓人看到主題的重要性以及研究的動機，故事的鋪陳很重要。
2.即便是現階段尚無法解決的問題也可報告，說服聽眾這是個有潛力的主題且以自己的經驗是有可能解決。
3.Q&A的過程不是defense，而是以一種不卑不亢的態度與聽眾討論，不會的問題也要提出自己的見解，讓人了解自己知識的廣度以及看事情的角度。

Lunch Meeting
1.在美國，計量領域的博士班畢業生若是要留在學術，那下一站就是faculty，所以不要想說還有post-doc來累積自己的CV。Get as many publications as possible。
2.當自己在進行工作轉換時，手上隨時要保留一兩個project，以便進入新工作位置時能夠維持一定程度的產量。
3.學會寫研究計畫，在博班這幾年中，若是能在政府單位申請到研究補助，會是一個大加分，這會讓自己在未來的應徵時證明自己有申請經費的能力。
4.培養自己的Social Skill。

Knowledge Gaps Need to Be Filled

1. List the currently used sample weighting methods and know their equations as well as pros and cons. (due 2/28)

2. To investigate measurement invariance, what kind of criteria were used in a simulation study? what kind of criteria were used in a study with real data. (due 1/31)

3. How to run a simulation study with Mplus and R. (due 3/31)
